When Rescue Steals Your Heart Part II - "2017 Adoptiversary Pupdate"

Just over a year after publishing the original blog post (When Rescue Steals Your Heart), something amazing happened. Something, as you may have read, I thought could not have been true. Still at the time it all seemed surreal, dreamlike honestly. But there I was, sitting right next to her, the Abbster and I back together again.

I may or may not have cried a little, but Abbey her mom said, was unusually calm for a visitor. She just lied beside me on the couch for most of our visit while her mom and I talked all about her. She of course showed me some of the awesome tricks mom had taught her. Seeing Abbey in action, in her element, was just well, perfect to say the least. This dog that I knew was once so lost in this world, the last I had seen her I was saying goodbye for what I thought be the last time (in a good way). And though I knew how well she had been, how loved she was and all of the joy that gave in return, it wasn't until this moment I realized how far she had come. Her eyes spoke, her spirit was calm, she was home, forever and she knew it!

"Got to pay a visit to one of my first and definitely most memorable rescue pups today. My dear Abbey whom I haven't seen in two years. So anxious to see her I was in tears but she is doing so great in her forever home with the best mom I could have asked for her to find, this is what it is all about. Despite how much I will always miss her, I know she is well and it just doesn't get any better than this."

Abbey Doing Her Thing That Day:

Summer of that year there was again a bit of a surprise, finding that there would be a new addition coming to my own family. This time though, a two legged one. A little girl born February 7, 2015, most appropriately and affectionately named - Abigale.

Now at the age of two she is definitely looking likely to be the crazy cat lady of the family. As her mother I of course fully accept and support this wild choice being right there next to her with big sis' Itsy and my pack of whatever other special dogs come through the door that day.

Abigale adores her big sis' and Abbey's former foster sister, Itsy Bitsy.  Maybe we'll have another update of the Abbey - Abbie introduction one day!

From Abbey to Abbie, my reason to rescue and my reason to be. I hope to reunite again one day so these two inspirations in my life can meet and know how important they both truly are. Not just to me but to everyone that both of their lives have touched.
